Forbes Living Ponders the Differences between Night Owls and Early Birds

Some people naturally get up with the roosters and hit their performance peak by mid-morning. Others prefer to stay up late and get up later in the morning, hitting their peak later at night. Forbes Living explores the differences between the night owls and early birds.

For the record, this article is being written in the morning, which makes its writer an early bird. Up before the sun, powered by some good coffee, peak performance is reached by 11 AM.  Some might call morning people “coffee achievers”.  With the day starting afresh, there is much to accomplish before noon. The night owls are still cozy in bed as the early birds start checking off completed tasks for the day. Come mid-day, early risers can take a break, catch a cat nap and then get busy with leftover chores.

Night owls are people who like to hit the sack later, around 11 PM or after. They sleep well into the daylight hours of the morning. They reach peak performance in the late evening, around 8 PM. The stillness of the night as others sleep allows them to accomplish nearly every item on their to-do list. No distractions when the world is sound asleep and dreaming. Night people relish to overnight or graveyard shift.

The early morning risers love the bright of day to awaken their senses, minds and bodies. A regular routine is usually a given for day people. Structure is good and keeps them on track. Night people enjoy the freedom of getting work done without real restrictions. The differences between early birds and night owls can be a difference as night and day, or as common as day and night. Forbes Living wants to know: are you an early bird or a night owl?

Forbes Living on How to be Forever Young

Bet you didn’t know there are some free secrets to staying young even when you hit the big 5-0. Forbes Living shares the best of them with readers.

Don’t’ you just love free stuff?

Be positive and be happy.  Find the positive in any situation. Is it pouring down rain on the day of your outdoor party? Bring it inside for a cozy soiree instead.

Happiness is not that hard to come by either. Look down. Your child, dog or cat is right there telling you that you are loved, even when your hair is a mess and your shorts are hanging off your hips like a soggy sack. Happiness is really just being content with what it is. All of it.

The soft and sensitive skin under the eyes ages the face faster than anything. Keep them moisturized with a good quality cream and they will thank you by keeping lines away.

Listen to what children say to you and about you. They are honest and honest in ways that most adults will never get. And when the urge arises, play like a kid!

Did someone call you a sourpuss? Thank them! And then squeeze some lemon juice in a bowl, take a cotton ball or pad, dip it and dab on the face. Leave the lemon juice on your face for about 10 minutes and then rinse off. So long dead cells and hello new younger ones. (And lemons are cheaper by the dozen than the top-rated facial cleansers.)

Forbes Living TV also recommends getting a good night’s rest, taking part in some zippy exercise and refusing to fall into negative think patterns.  If all else fails. There is always tomorrow.

Forbes Living and the Best Amenities in the Airport

Yoga studio at DFW airport

Forget the corner newsstand which sells magazines and newspapers from around the world. Forget the restaurant that sells gourmet healthy meals. Forbes Living learns some big city American airports offer relaxation, farm fresh fruit and veggies and grow their own food not far from the gate you’re about to depart.

Major city airports in the U.S. are upping their game when it comes to what they offer in terminals and near departure gates.  From yoga studios and spaces to organic food, airports may very well once again be taking us back to the day when flying was fun and something to look forward to. Some airports are bringing in local breweries, farmers markets, and green, peaceful places to de-stress in-between flights. Forbes Living knows that travelers remember the airport by what there is to eat and buy. The more eclectic the offerings, the more people will spend some of their money in that airport which contributes to the city. It is a win-win for everyone. Passengers get restful places and cool places to spend some money, and the airport and city boost their revenue. Hopefully, this will translate to more visitors to the city. The city of Pittsburgh was one of the first in the nation to try a different way to get passengers to spend money. Their street pricing and upper-end stores appealed to almost very kind of traveler. The formula worked then and it works now.

Forbes Living Reveals Extra Special Pumpkins for Halloween

Harry Potter stenciled  pumpkin
There are the carved pumpkins that moms and dads create to decorate the outdoors on Halloween. And then there are the extra special ones which fancy celebrities. Forbes Living shares some cool ways to make a pumpkin look like Harry Potter, a sports star or a monster, and more.

There are pumpkin carving kits that give anyone the ability to carve a pumpkin so it looks like someone famous. And there are people who grow pumpkins to look like well-known monsters. Whichever way one decides to go, it will please both kids and adults during the special time of the year to find that they’re looking for.

In case one wants a pumpkin that is grown to resemble Frankenstein, there is a farmer in Ventura, California who grows pumpkins to look like Frankenstein. His gourds are called “Pumpkinsteins” and they sell between $75.00 and $125.00 dollars. We’re not sure if he ships them or not. We doubt it since there is no website for the “Pumpkinsteins”. But if you live in the vicinity, why not check it out?

Forbes Living TV also suggests visiting local arts and crafts stores to find stencils to use at home for both drawing and carving.  Below are a few more websites where fans can download stencils to use.
Have a ghoulishly fun time finding what you need to make Halloween a scream.

Forbes Living with Remedies for Thinning Hair

Nothing can be more shocking than having to clean the hair off of the drain every other day and realizing it is yours. It leaves us wondering how we can stop what seems like the sudden mass exodus of our pride and joy.

Forbes Living learns how to fight the agony of thinning hair with some suggestions from health experts.

Eat more food with zinc, protein, iron and vitamin B12. These are leafy greens, lean meat, nuts, beans and fish. There are many easy recipes for all of the above.

Give your scalp a massage. Don’t just stand in the shower, shampoo and rinse. Really massage your scalp which increases blood flow and helps the shampoo do a better job on your hair.

Lessen the amount of styling products being used. This especially important for people that color their hair and use blow dryers, straightening irons or other implements.

Visit a health food store and buy a supplement that helps hair grow. There are a few on the shelves.

Get a check up from the doctor to see if there are any deficiencies in the blood as this is sometimes where hair loss can stem from.

Forbes Living suggests relaxing more. Stress can cause hair to fall out. Try meditation, yoga (it’s doing good things for combat veterans), and rhythmic breathing.

If nothing works, talk to a doctor or dermatologist to see if there is something else to be done.

Eco-Friendly Fireplaces Help Create Clean and Warm Spaces from Forbes Living

Does it seem odd to read a post about fireplaces right before summer begins? Forbes Living heats up the conversation about Eco-friendly, mobile fireplaces and how they are the best option for heating rooms while keeping air clean.

Even though summer is literally days away, there are still some locations which might benefit from having a non-wood burning fireplace in the home. One of the greatest benefits of a mobile heater is that they warm the space you are in and not the entire home. This is called zone heating.

Another way to heat a room is to use the existing fireplace but install a fireplace insert in it. The inserts come in several varieties including electric, pellet stove and bio fuel, like ethanol. The ethanol fireplaces burn clean air, produce no smoke and are sustainable. A true green supplement to any home, like the ones Ignis Products sells. They are stylish and can be taken to the lakeside cabin, the beach house or to the bedroom to warm up a cool evening. Price ranges are not, but if you want a free one, why not enter the #ForbesLivingSummerRomance contest?  Click the link to read the easy entry rules. Tell us why you are a hopeful romantic in 200 to 300 words and be on your way to winning an artful, Eco-friendly fireplace for your living space.

*This post is only 227 words. Use a guideline if entering the contest.*

Forbes Living Talks Good Nutrition for Heart Health

There are many foods which are good for our health, and then there are foods which are good for our hearts.

Chicken and fish are two foods which are high in protein and ones which help prevent a stroke or heart attack. Twenty grams of protein from these two reduces the possibility of a stroke by 20 percent. A study recently published in the journal Neurology found that animal protein rather than protein from vegetables lowered cholesterol better. High cholesterol is one of the culprits of strokes. The researchers studies more than 254 thousand people from different countries and found that the protein from animals, (excepting red meat) is better. Fish is the preferable choice as only 20 more grams of protein from it could lower stroke risk.

Forbes Living also suggests a diet that includes beans, olive oil and other heart healthy foods. Stroke is a major health issue in the U.S. If having more filet per week could mean possibly erasing the risk, it is well worth it. Some fish is more affordable than others, such as tilapia. Supermarkets and discount stores carry a good variety of frozen fish which is also affordable and easy to store at home. Take time to ask the clerk at the fish counter in the store which kinds have more protein than others. Also, ask if they have any recipes which can be tried at home. Good nutrition for heart health is easy and affordable.

Forbes Living and Why Stay At Home Dads are Valuable

The economy has left many dads out of work and those that are seem to have taken over the household duties their wives once had. But a recent study found that only eight percent of American households approved this kind of arrangement. Forbes Living explains why stay at home dads are valuable.

In today’s world, children of all ages should see that both men and women can take over the household duties and do it for the better good of the family. Stay at home dads are cooler than stay at home moms because, well, they are dads.  They are good at handy man stuff, can be creative when cooking and do not become unhinged if the carpet is not vacuumed or the dishes not done. They can take freelance writing gigs and blog about their experience at home. They enlighten people with their insight about the same things women usually gripe about. They seem to see more into the female psyche than the sisterhood does. Forbes Living TV calls the stay at home dads out and thanks them for everything they do. It can’t be easy to be the one seen in the car pool lane, at the grocery store at 10 AM or taking part in a “mommy and me” play group on a daily or weekly basis.  Yet, men are doing this every day. There are roughly 2 million stay at home dads in the U.S.A. These men are probably doing a better job being a stay at home dad than most of us will ever know. Thanks!

What to Do If You Lost Something during Travel from Forbes Living

Have you ever left something on a flight, in a rental car or a hotel room? Do you wonder where your lost valuables (and other items) go if you don’t remember where there were left? Forbes Living has some answers.

Items left unclaimed after being in an airline or rental car Lost and Found department for more than 90 days are usually sold at auction or sent to another facility for unclaimed items. The people who work with unclaimed baggage and lost items report that most items are lost because they have no ID tag or a poor ID tag. So what do you do when you’ve lost your tablet, smart phone or a child’s favorite stuffed animal?

Forbes Living TV suggests:
Submit a lost item report as soon as something is reported missing.
Be specific on the report. Note size, color, material, and brand.
Lost a purse? Be detailed about what is inside – including cosmetics and brands, money, personal items.

In the future, label everything inside and out. Write initials on a stuffed animal’s paws. Write the model and serial number of electronics and keep it in a separate place.
And always keep an eye on your valuables to be sure you know where they where the last time you laid them down. I once lost a pair of reading glasses on a very floral bedspread in a hotel. Enough said.

Forbes Living and Dressing the Men – Part 1 – Chambray

Joe Fresh chambray dress shirt

Women love to shop and shopping is more rewarding when they can find the most dashing outfit for the men in their lives. Forbes Living offers some ideas for dressing the men – part one of four – chambray for any occasion.

Who is that guy? Is he an outdoorsman who loves to hike, fish or surf and later stay home with a few good flicks and you?
Or is he the kind of man who can handle a rough game of football with friends and clean up so nicely afterward that the only choice is to take him out and show him off?

No matter what kind of man he is, there is something stylish and sexy in chambray available this fashion season for the main dude in your life. Just pick your style and price point threshold.

Chambray is a lightweight and lighter colored denim that looks awesome on almost everyone. Men, especially, look ruggedly handsome in it. Chambray shirts are available from the more affordable retailers like Old Navy to the tonier ones like Polo Ralph Lauren. And they are available in a variety of styles from dress shirt to sporty. The priciest one we saw is selling for $450.00. A more affordable shirt in the same dress shirt style is below and sells for $29.00. (And we thought the margin was monstrous for women’s fashion.) Forbes Living TV suggests finding a cool chambray shirt in the style that fits your man the best.
