Forbes Living TV Explores the Benefits of Community College Degrees

Westmoreland County Community College, PA

It wasn’t that long ago when high school guidance counselors discouraged students from attending a community college. But things are different today. The benefits of going to a local school can be good, as Forbes Living TV learns.

A study conducted by the journal Educational Evaluation and Policy Analysis found that earning a degree or getting a certificate from a community college can increase a worker’s salary in the long run. Employees who attended a one year program also noted job advancement in their chosen careers. Those who took shorter programs did not seem the same results.  Community college graduates or certificate holders used to not get the respect they deserved from prospective hiring managers. But that’s changed today as more students are choosing community college over a four year college.

Community colleges usually offer their programs at a much lesser cost than the traditional four year degree programs. Schools are closer to home and are offering science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) courses which are highly sought in today’s work force. Forbes Living TV also learns that students who earn an associate’s degree or a long-term certificate have a better chance of getting a job and earning more over the long run. It might just pay to explore the programs offered at a community college near you.

Forbes Living TV Offers Information about Head Lice

We’re hesitant to write an article about head lice, but sometimes there are topics we must cover in the Mommy Must Haves series. So without further ado, Forbes Living TV shares some facts about it that might be helpful to know.

Head lice is not a sign that you or your kids are dirty. But this is often the misconception. In fact, someone gets lice from another person. And all the scrubbing of the head and scalp will not help get rid of it. It has to be treated.

There are several good products sold at pharmacies and grocery stores which help families get the itchy little buggers. Ask the family doctor which one is best for everyone.

Treat the rest of the house for lice too. Wash bedding, towels, clothes and stuffed animals in the hottest water possible and dry on high heat. If the items are not washable, stick them in a plastic bag for a few days and this should kill them. Lice do not like heat and needs blood to survive.

The best way to get lice out of hair is to use a long tooth comb specifically made for it. Go through each section of hair using conditioner or detangler spray to make it easier.  Start at the scalp and work your way through all of the hair looking closely for nits and live lice. This should be done every day for two weeks since it takes about that long to be sure it is all gone.

Forbes Living TV suggests being kind to people whom you’ve heard might have head lice. After all, they got it from someone and it could have been you.

Forbes Living with Tips for Pets Who Miss Their Kid-Siblings

The family pet mopes all day long waiting for the kids to get home from school. Some become so anxious that they destroy blinds, doors and other objects. A neighbor’s pooch becomes so upset when her family is out of the house that it viewed up three sets of mini blinds before they brought in another dog to keep the wild one calm. Forbes Living offers tips for pets that miss their kid-siblings when school starts.

A great summer for the dog or cat is having their human siblings around to play with and cuddle up to. But once school starts, what’s a sad and lonely pet to do until the school bus comes back or the front door opens? Make school departure time happy and fun with treats and toys. Toss the ball one more time or give the family four-legger a treat before heading out. Make a safe place for the animal to stay in during the day. Crates work well for this especially if the dog is trained to go in it when young. This is their safe space. Don’t draw out saying see ya later to the dog. Make it quick and then go out the door. If school already started, start the new school routine for the pooch over the weekend. Forbes Living TV recommends getting the family pet used to the new schedule as soon as possible. If the animal has serious anxiety problems, go see the vet and ask if there is anything that can help. Animals are family members just like their human buddies. Look after then and they will look after you.
