Forbes Living TV Wishes the Golden Globe Awards Happy 71st Anniversary

It seems like it was not that long ago when the organization that created the Golden Globe Awards was not well-respected in the entertainment industry. But the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, a group whose membership represents 55 countries spanning from Europe to New Zealand, is now considered one of the most important events in Hollywood. This month, the popular and glamorous award show celebrates their 71st anniversary.

The HFPA started as a group of international journalists who wanted to efficiently and accurately cover all aspects of the world of entertainment. Back in the 1940’s, the studios did not think that foreign coverage of their films was all that important. During the 1950’s the group split but later reunited. Today, the HFPA hosts the Golden Globe Awards -- one of the three most-watched award shows on television. It is a night where the actors, directors, producers, screenwriters and other industry professionals from around the world gather to celebrate their achievements. It is a night where the rules are a little looser and the celebrity outfits more creative than those of the Academy Awards, which makes it more fun to watch.

Forbes Living TV raises a champagne flute to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for its incredible 71 years of covering the entertainment industry through turmoil, scandal, a split, political agendas and free-speaking celebs to become an annual favorite. Cheers!
